SGU Plays Efficiently and Earns Result

Surrey Guildford had been progressing nicely in the last two weeks with some new found stability on the back line. Their opposition, the North Shore Selects, had not won in four but their record is certainly not as dismal as it appears with close results against all the top teams.

SGU was organized from the outset breaking down any of North Shore's offensive pressure quickly and efficiently. Moving forward SGU was relatively patient but was able to consistenly cause North Shore grief at the back. United drew first blood on an excellent run forward that was picked off nicely by the midfielder playing the ball behind the back line. The run into the box drew a foul and the ensuing PK was tallied to go up 1-0. With the lead, Surrey continued to perform well by keeping pressure on the Selects but extiguishing any offensive progress they tried to mount.

In the second half United was as disciplined as in the first. North Shore managed to mount a chance mid-way through the half but the effort was cleared calmly off the line by a well positioned full-back. SGU maintained a good work rate through the remainder of the half and ground out a very respectable 1-0 win.

Next week United takes on Coquitlam Metro Ford Euro; always an epic battle between two teams that tend to 'get up' to play each other and have a wonderful sportsmanlike distaste for one another which all adds up to an excellent contest.
