Going into this week's game against the Delta Selects, Surrey had worked hard to repair some of the breakdowns that were occuring on the back line and were really looking to play a well managed game that was patient and limited scoring opportunities for the Selects.
Both SGU and Delta showed their cards early with the Selects trying numerous times inside the frist ten minutes to spring their leading scorer. SGU opted to adjust their tactics in order to manage the main threat and build some offence with fewer numbers. United was rewarded as one of their strikers managed to get free inside the box and finished very calmly to go up 1-0. Shortly after, SGU doubled their lead on a well executed free kick. Score at the half, 2-0.
In the second half the Surrey boys lacked in style but continued to be solid in defense. Delta was able to hold possession for short periods but couldn't mount anything dangerous. SGU was even more impotent in their attack however, resting on a two goal lead, was content to run out the clock. Final score 2-0.
Next week Surrey Guildford United takes on the North Shore Selects; with a win and a little help, SGU could have sole possession of 3rd in the league after the weekend.
