SGU Unimpressive In Loss

The game figured to be quite the matchup; both teams having finished near the top last season and with a few players now wearing the opposition's uniform, there were lots of storylines to follow.

In the opening few minutes SGU looked comfortable but the wheels came off quickly. A pair of defensive mix-ups put SGU down 2-0 inside the first 15 minutes and United struggled to recover from the setback. The Surrey Selects look bigger, stronger and far more composed in their game plan while Surrey-Guildford just struggled to keep a foothold in the game.

SGU was hoping they could respond after the half with a better performance but whether it was the Surrey Selects dominance or SGU's ineptitude, there was little semblance of structure in United's play. The Selects added to their lead, notching a pair to make it 4-0. Surrey-Guildford showed a little gumption by not rolling over, their play didn't improve but it didn't deteriorate either despite the chance of earning a result being out of reach. SGU did manage to get on the scoreboard, putting up a pair of goals on PK's (both of which were well earned). Final score, 6-2.

Surrey-Guildford is looking to rebound this week against Alouette, a win will move United into the top half of the table.
