After a five week break and a relatively quiet, albeit successful, pre-season, Surrey Guildford United would open the regular season against Langley United. Although the Langley squad have been around a few years, this year's group is a bit of an unknown with a completely revamped line-up that has played very few pre-season games. SGU on the other hand have made only a few changes to their roster.
The disparity between the two squads was apparent from early on. SGU held posession well while Langley struggled to build out of their half. Near the ten minute mark, SGU opened the scoring with a winger getting in behind Langley's back line and dribbling the keeper to go up 1-0. The Surrey boys added two more before the half for a 3-0 lead.
Langley had just a single sub for the game and fatigue set in in the second half. Surrey mounted numerous scoring chances and converted four of them for a 7-0 win.
Next week SGU plays away to the Burnaby Selects; after tying them in the pre-season Surrey is looking to take full points out of the season match-up.
