SGU Full Value Despite the Loss

Coming off a win, Surrey-Guildford really wanted to get on a roll taking on a Richmond team who was sitting not far behind them in the standings.

It was a bit of a disasterous start for SGU as they got picked apart and coughed up a goal inside the first thirty seconds. The goal rattled United and it took them nearly twenty minutes to assert any kind of presence in the game. Once they had settled in, Surrey Guildford did manage to push forward and get some offensive possession. Going into the half SGU was down 1-0.

Surrey Guildford had struggled in the first half of the season to mount socring chances against the older teams in the League, Richmond being one of them. IN the second half, for the first time, SGU stepped up physically and started winning some battles to hold up the ball let their possession do the work to push the pace of the game. Surrey Guildford dominated the half and pushed Richmond's big back line to its limit. Unfortunately, while they were able to make them bend, Richmond didn't break and preserved the 1-0 win.

SGU had much to be proud of in spite of the result. The boys proved they can compete against the bigger and faster teams. With some timely finishing the team could well be rounding into form. Next week SGU takes on the Delta Selects, their last game before the break.
