After coming out of the break with a good performance, United went into a bye week; the extra weekend off appeared to help with a good week of training. On gameday Surrey Guildford traveled to Nanaimo to play Upper Vancouver Island United.
UVI have been improving their play but still have continued to struggle in the league. SGU opened the game not playing particularly well but maintained pressure with ease. Surrey Guildford mounted several chances however their finishing was lacking and several opportunities were sent wide and over the mark. The Surrey boys did manage to put up two in the first half despite their struggles to keep team shape combined with undertermined play.
In the second half, SGU responded quite well. Although their play was still not strong it showed marked improvement and speaks to the squad's ability to elevate their game when needed. UVI started to break down as SGU stretched the field and with the sustained pressure UVI conceeded four more goals in the half.
UVI only threatened once on a counter-attack where Surrey Guildford was slow to organize themselves but the chance was snuffed out and Nanaimo didn't mount any other chances. Final score 6-0. Next week SGU takes on Abbotsford 'A' who beat Surrey 6-0 in their previous contest.
