After putting in good performances in the previous two weeks that probably should have earned at least some points in the standings, Surrey Guildford was looking to continue their strong play and turn it into some upward movement in the table.
Surrey Guildford got off to a good start creating scoring chances off crosses early in the game. The Abbotsford Mariners were able to turn away the first few chances but eventually some excellent organizational play allowed SGU to pick up an initial missed cross from the left wing and drive it back accross the face of goal from the right side which left a tap in finish for SGU's striker. Surrey continued to exert their dominance through the first half, limiting the Mariners to very few chances and preventing any kind of sustained pressure to be held in their half. At the thirty seven minute mark, still in the first half, Surrey Guildford converted a corner after a bit of a scramble, to go up 2-0 at half time.
In the second half, Abbotsford had little response to the two goal deficit. Initially Surrey Guildford looked liked they were going to run away with the game but as they settled into the second frame the two teams slogged out a rather uneventful affair. The Surrey boys built infrequent chances and Abby seemed unable or unwilling to counter-punch with anything offensive of their own. Final score 2-0.
Next week SGU takes on the Surrey Selects who thumped them 6-2 in their previous meeting. With the teams sitting at opposite ends of the table SGU is looking for another well organized game that will give them the opportunity to steal the points if the Select falter in any way.
