Coming off a strong weekend on Thanksgiving, the opposition this week would be considerably weaker than the older teams faced in Richmond. SGU was scheduled against Upper Vancouver Island (Nanaimo) who have been struggling in the league to say the least.
Nanaimo was able to hang with Surrey-Guildford for a short time, although they were under pressure, UVI were able to keep United off the scoreboard for ten minutes. Once SGU got the opening goal, they would easily put up five goals in final twenty minutes of the first half for a 5-0 lead going into the break.
In the second half, SGU tried to avoid taking the easy goal scoring opportunities, however, within the first five minutes of the second half United added two more beautiful goals headed in off crosses for a 7-0 lead which all but shattered UVI's confidence. Nanaimo would take advantage of a defensive and goaltending calamity to put one goal on the board but SGU countered with three more goals before the final whistle for a 10-1 final.
Next week, Surrey-Guildford has a very difficult match-up against Abbotsford 'A'.
